Weather & Temperature at Everest Base Camp in June

The spring the Everest Base Camp draws to an end and summer is about to start. It’s a transitional season and it’s different from the early summer in the mainland areas. Summer is also the rainy season of Mount Everest. The precipitation is obviously increased, and it rains more frequently, but most of them are showers. The clouds get thicker and the wind is slightly decreased. The solar radiation is strong, although you cannot feel it that much with the clouds cover it up. There is a special view around Mount Everest which is called the Qiyun, which is a special shape of clouds that looks like it is floating on the top of the mountain like a flag. Many people also especially come to see it.

The temperature difference between day and night is still large to about 15 degrees Celsius. The daytime temperature reaches up to 18 degrees Celsius, and it dramatically drops to 2 degrees Celsius at night.

The Everest Base Camp is located in the Himalayas- the Roof of the World. It’s in Tingri County, Shigatse, Tibet, with an average elevation of about 5,000 meters. It is of a plateau mountain climate characterized by “high terrain” and “cold temperature”.

The weather is getting warmer with both the snow and ice melting at lower altitude. The melting snow water is also visible on the roadside of the mountain pass. While the wind can get strong in sometimes. While the temperature at night is still quite low and it takes long for the heating equipment to work properly.

What to Wear if visiting Everest in June

Daytime average temperature: Above 10°C, clothes such as spring jackets, outdoor jackets, long-sleeved T-shirts, etc. are recommended.

Nighttime average temperature: 0°C (windy & cold), warm clothes such as winter coats, leather jackets, windproof jackets, down jackets, scarves, hats, gloves, sunglasses, masks, etc. are recommended.
