  • How to plan your tour in Beijing?
All of this of course depends on how much time you have to spend in the capital city, but you really should plan to spend at least two and a half days here – one day for your arrival, another day for a full-day tour, and a half-day for a morning tour before embarking on your flight to Lhasa. We recommend at least a 4-day stay so that you can see all of the best highlights of Beijing at a leisurely pace. Here are some of the top sites to see in Beijing along with some ideas on how long it might take to experience them:

1 day: Tian’anmen Square, the Forbidden City, Temple of Heaven, Peking Duck Dinner
1 day: Great Wall of China at Mutianyu, The Summer Palace
½-day: Folk Culture Experience - Ancient Hutong (Alleyways) of Old Beijing, Local Family Visit, Learn to Make Chinese Dumplings for Lunch
1 day: Great Wall of China at Mutianyu (extended hiking)
2 days: Great Wall of China at Jinshanling and Great Wall of China at Simatai Wild Great Wall Hiking Trip

Train travel to Tibet – There is only one train scheduled each day. Train Z21 departs from Beijing West Railway Station at 20:10 (8:10 p.m.), and arrives at Lhasa Railway Station at 13:27 (1:27 pm) on the third day. The whole train journey runs about 3753 kilometers taking 40 hours and 53 minutes, so you would spend two nights on board the train.

Flights to Tibet – There are usually 6 flights scheduled each day from Beijing to Lhasa, all of which depart from Beijing before 15:00 (3 p.m.). Non-stop flights take about 4 hours and 30 minutes, while stopover-flights take about 6 hours and 40 minutes.

We recommend a morning flight to Tibet to give you more time to acclimatize to the high altitude and different weather in Lhasa.
