  • How to apply the Nepal Visa if I fly from Lhasa to Kathmandu?
    It can be handled in Lhasa. It is not troublesome for both Chinese and foreign citizens to apply for individual tourist visas to Nepal. You can bring the required materials directly to the Embassy of Nepal in Lhasa. To apply for a visa, you need to submit the following documents: the original copy of your valid passport and one 2-inch color photo, a complete copy of the front and back side of your id card, and a personal data form. The Nepalese Visa costs about USD 25 per person, it can be issued within half an hour, with a validity of 15 days. Or can apply for Landing Visa, the tourists can apply after landing Kathmandu airport, the procedure is almost the same as applies in Lhasa.
  • How to get to Nepal from Tibet?
    There are no trains or high-speed trains from Lhasa to Kathmandu nowadays. You can take the direct flight from Lhasa to Kathmandu directly, another method is to charter a car from Lhasa to the capital Kathmandu by land through Gyirong Port. For foreign tourists, the overland method out of Tibet is very popular at present.
  • How many days will it take to drive from Lhasa to Gyirong border?
    If you only talk about driving from Lhasa to the border of Gyirong, with tight schedules, only two days is enough. However, for the tourist who is a first time in Tibet, under normal circumstances from Lhasa to drive out of Tibet through the Gyirong Border will spend about 4 days is appropriate and recommended.
  • How is the road condition from Lhasa to Kathmandu?
    Due to the development of Tibet tourism, the Tibet road conditions are very good, now mostly are bituminous concrete roads, cars and commercial vehicles can run on it. However, all of the tour are ending up at Gyirong border, visitors need to rent a car from Gyirong border to Kathmandu, though only with about 180 kilometers, and the scenery along the way is nice, but the road is very dusty and bumpy, so it is suggested that rent an SUV, as it is much more comfortable.
  • How long does it take to drive from Gyirong border to Kathmandu?
    Although it is only about 180 km from the Gyirong border, however, it will take about 5-6 hours drive with an SUV, with short breaks and simple meals along the way. Due to the bumpy road and speed limit, the driving time is a little longer for the safety of tourists.
  • How much is the flight between Lhasa and Kathmandu?
    As many people might know that the Zhangmu port where linking China and Nepal has been closed due to the serious damage from the Nepal earthquake in 2015. Now only cargo traffic is allowed, while all the tourists are supposed to enter and leave from Gyirong port. However, you may also take the flight, as the only country with direct international flights to Tibet is Nepal, and there are flights every day, with about 2 hours, the full cost is RMB 2,300 /person.
  • Are there any nationality restrictions from Lhasa to Kathmandu?
    At present, there is no restriction on nationality, all the tourists from other nationalities can fly from Lhasa or land to Kathmandu, except Bhutanese tourists.

The cost is charged according to the size or type of car. You can also rent a car in the border area to enter into Nepal. However, if you want to save money, you can share a car with the members in the same group to Kathmandu.

Not far away there is a monastery, from the introduction board, you will learn that: in the pass, when Songtsen gampo married Nepalese princess Khri-btsun, they passed by this area. Gyirong means “merry” in Tibetan language, in order to express their merriness, the place was given the name of Gyirong. Along the road you will see flocks of sheep, villages and majestic mountains, thus it is worth a visit.
  • Is it easy to rent a vehicle at Gyirong Port?
    Tourists need to find a vehicle by themselves, because they have to cross the border, the tour guide can not cross the other side of the border. There are many vehicles for choice on the other side, most are the 9-seats vehicle. Under normal circumstances are carpooling, per capita price: RMB 100-200.
