Shigatse weather in April

Shigatse Weather 553

Shigatse weather in April

When it’s spring, the snow on the ground began to melt and the temperature is slowly picking up. The red wall of the Tashilhunpo Temple is against the blue sky and the white tower of Baiju Temple shines in the spring sunshine. The temperature in Shigatse is 3-15 degree Celsius in April with little rain and a lot of sunshine. The weather in April is always changing though. It can be clouded when you are at the Gombala Pass and when you get down to the foot of it, the clouds are gone and the sun is shiny. The weather is so unpredictable that you can never tell what it will be like later on the moment you just step out of your hotel.

Shigatse travel tips in April:

Everest in Shigatse is known to everyone. It is the "world's highest peak". Shigatse City has the snow-capped mountains, the original forest belt, the holy mountains, the holy lakes, the grassland and the ancient temples. Along the Yarlung Zangbo River from Lhasa, there is Yamdrok Lake, one of the three holy lakes in Tibet. The Tashilhunpo Monastery is a symbol of Shigatse. The temple is built on the hills. It is the place where the Panchen Lama stayed in the past. Baiju Temple has many pagodas and is known as the “Tibetan Tower King”. The murals in the temple are structurally coherent and partially self-connected. Baiju Temple and Sakya Temple are the religious centers of Tibet. There are also Zongshan anti-British battle sites in Shigatse.

Notes on Shigatse travel in April:

When you first travel to the Tibetan Plateau, most people will feel different levels of hypoxia such as chest tightness, difficulty breathing or other symptoms. But this does not mean that you cannot adapt to the high altitude environment. If you can adjust yourself properly, the above symptoms can generally be improved or disappear in 2~3 days.

If you are flying to Tbet, the symptoms of a general mountain sickness will occur in 12 to 14 hours. Therefore, when you first arrive in Tibet and don’t feel very well, please rest in bed instead of taking any intensive exercise. Otherwise, it takes more time to adapt to it.

People often use oxygen supplement to relieve chest discomfort. Oxygen inhalation temporarily relieves chest tightness, shortness of breath, difficulty breathing, etc., but the symptoms reappear after stopping oxygenation, which actually delays the time to adapt to the high altitude environment. If the symptoms of hypoxia are not very serious, oxygen inhalation is not recommended, which will help you to adapt to the altitude environment faster. A mild altitude sickness will get better without treatment and the oxygen inhalation may become an addict.

After entering Tibet, you should eat more carbohydrates, digestible foods and drink plenty of water to keep your body hydrated. Please do not eat too much at night nor alcohol drinking and smoking. Foods which are rich in vitamins such as fruits and vegetables are recommended. Please try not to do too much and try to eat and rest regularly. During the first few days when you just arrived in Tibet, Please don't take frequent shower to prevent yourself from catching colds. Colds are often the main cause of acute high altitude pulmonary edema (which is not easy to heal under hypoxic conditions). During your stay in Tibet, please don’t take too many activities and carry too much stuff. Please slow down with everything and walk slowly. , You can gradually increase the amount of activity after a week.

The best time to travel to Shigatse in general:

Shigatse is also called as the post-Tibet, which is another political and cultural center in Tibet besides Lhasa. The best season for travel to Shigatse is from June to October. This is the season when you can see the beautiful and the infinite post-Tibet grassland. October in Shigatse is also a month full of fascinating autumn golden colors, which makes it the best month to visit Shigatse.
