Beijing to Tibet

Beijing is the capital city of China, and one of the largest cities in the world with a decisive international influence. The world's famous ancient capital and modern international city enjoys advantageous transportation facilities. Beijing is a must visit for many foreign tourists as the place of classical Chinese historical sites. It is very convenient to travel from Beijing to Tibet, one can go straight to Lhasa either by plane or train.

Transportation from Beijing to Tibet:

1. Flight from Beijing to Lhasa

There are three flights from Beijing to Lhasa every day, including two direct flights and one stopover flight. The earliest flight takes off at 7:35 AM and arrives in Lhasa at noon. The whole journey takes about 4.5-6 hours, which is very convenient but a bit costly at about 3320 RMB per ticket. However, there may be a good discount during the off-season. 2. Train from Beijing to Lhasa

Train Z21 leaves daily from Beijing at 8:00 PM to Lhasa, which takes about 40 hours to arrive in Lhasa on the third day 12:40 PM with a cost about 1144 RMB / person. Compared with plane, taking a train is much cheaper, and one can enjoy the spectacular scenery along the way, which includes land covered by ice and snow, boundless desert, vast grassland, clear lakes and majestic mountains capped by ice and snow. Taking a train from Qinghai to Tibet can be a good choice too, you can either fly from Beijing to Lanzhou, and then take a train from Lanzhou to Lhasa which takes 24 hours; or take a train from Beijing to Xining for about 23 hours, and then take a train from Xining to Lhasa which takes 21 hours. The train that enters Tibet from Xining is recommended for the scenery along the way is very touching. It is considered better to visit Tibet between June to October, during which the weather is amiable and the oxygen is more sufficient.

Driving from Beijing to Lhasa takes at least 3 days with a distance of 3590 kms. There are direct flight from Beijing to Lhasa every day, taking more than 4 hours, the flight distance between Beijing and Tibet is 2566 KMS. If you take the train from Beijing to Lhasa, the distance is nearly 3800KMS.
  • Is it better to take the flight or train to Lhasa?
    There is one daily train from Beijing to Lhasa and the whole train journey takes more than 40 hours, which means you have to stay 2 nights in the train cabin. You need to share with 3 passengers even you choose the soft sleeper. If you are not keen on the Qinghai-Tibet Railway, train is not suggested because of the long duration.
  • What to see in Beijing with a short stay?
    All of this of course depends on how much time you have to spend in the capital city, but you really should plan to spend at least two and a half days here – one day for your arrival, another day for a full-day tour, and a half-day for a morning tour before embarking on your flight to Lhasa.
